Find Plates With Your Initials

Enter two or three initials. We only show registrations carrying them as one unbroken block.

Tip: the letters I and Q never appear in modern plates. If your initials include one, Northern Irish registrations are the answer.

Why Initials Never Go Out of Style

Before name reads and word plates, there were initials. They remain the most timeless form of personalisation because they work for everyone: whatever your name, however unusual, your initials fit on a plate.

The classic look places two or three initials as the closing block of a current style registration, in the shape of AB12 JRW. Prefix era marks put a year letter first with the initials following, a style many drivers grew up admiring. At the very top, short dateless combinations turn initials into heirlooms: two letters and a number that fit any vehicle ever made.

Initials also solve the problems names cannot. Shared family initials let one plate pass between relatives. Business partners combine theirs. And unlike a name plate, initials never feel wrong on a company vehicle or a formal car.

Three Routes to Initial Plates

Same initials, three very different price points and personalities.

Current style block

Your initials as the final trio on a modern registration. The most affordable route, with the year identifier free to carry a birth year or anniversary. The finder above searches exactly these.

Prefix character

A year letter, a number, then your initials: the format of the eighties and nineties, and often the read people remember wanting first. Characterful, plentiful and sensibly priced.

Dateless prestige

One or two letters and a short number, no age identifier, any vehicle. The definitive initials statement and a documented store of value. Our dateless page covers the territory.

Initials Plates FAQ

My initials include an I or a Q. What are my options?

Modern registrations never use I or Q in the letter trio, but Northern Irish marks always contain an I or a Z and carry no age identifier, so they fit any vehicle. For most I or Q initials they are the perfect, and pleasingly affordable, answer. See our Northern Irish plates page.

Two initials or three?

Three initials give the fullest personal read and the finder handles both. Two initial searches return broader results, including combinations where a third letter follows; many buyers discover a three letter read they prefer that way.

Can an initials plate be shared or passed down?

Beautifully. Family initials outlive individual names, so a single plate can move between relatives who share them, or wait on a retention certificate for the next generation. It is the classic heirloom purchase of this market.

Why does the finder show fewer results than the main search?

By design. It filters to registrations containing your initials as one intact block, dropping the scattered near-matches the main search also explores. Fewer, better, is the point.

Are initial plates more expensive than name plates?

Usually less. Name blocks compete with every bearer of that name, while your exact initials face a smaller crowd. Common initial sets price higher than rare ones, but the entry point is generally friendlier than the big name reads.
