What does the number plate sourcing service cost?
Posting a wanted request is free, and there is no retainer while we look. The only charge is an introduction fee, agreed per deal, and only once pricing has been negotiated and confirmed with both sides. Depending on the deal, the fee is paid by either the buyer or the seller, and it is always agreed before anyone is asked to pay anything.
What happens the moment I post a request?
Two things. First, an instant availability check: if your registration, or a very close match, is already buyable through DVLA stock or a live listing on our marketplace, we show you immediately and email you the links. Second, once approved by our team, your wanted page goes live and the search begins.
Is my name or budget shown publicly?
No. The wanted page shows only the registration and the number of buyers waiting. Your name, contact details, budget, and anything you tell us about why you want the plate stay private with our team throughout, and are used only to verify and negotiate the deal.
How do you know the person who comes forward really owns the plate?
Anyone responding to a wanted page tells us which document they hold: the V5C log book if the plate is on a vehicle, or a V750 or V778 certificate if it is held off-vehicle. We verify before any introduction, and we still recommend you sight the document yourself before money changes hands, exactly as you would in any private plate sale.
Do you handle the payment and DVLA transfer?
No, and that is deliberate. We are the sourcing and introduction service: we find the owner, verify them, and negotiate the deal. The sale itself, the payment, and the DVLA assignment are completed directly between buyer and seller once introduced. We never hold the sale funds.
How long does sourcing take?
Honestly: anywhere from a day to many months, and sometimes the owner never comes forward at all. Some owners surface within weeks of a page going live; some plates are owned by people who will not sell at any price. That is why posting is free and the fee only exists when a real deal is on the table. Your request stays live until it succeeds or you withdraw it.
Can I get a progress update on my request?
There genuinely isn't one to give, and we'd rather be straight about that than send hollow updates. Sourcing is a submit-and-wait service: your wanted page works around the clock through search, our valuation traffic, and social reach, and the next contact from us will be real news, whether that's an instant match, an owner coming forward, or the plate surfacing in DVLA stock. Silence just means the owner hasn't appeared yet.
What if several people want the same registration?
Requests for the same plate stack on one wanted page, and the buyer count is shown publicly. When an owner comes forward on a stacked plate, our team manages the competing interest fairly, and having more than one serious buyer usually helps the deal happen at all.
I own a plate that's listed as wanted. What should I do?
Open the wanted page for your registration and use the "It's my plate" form. You tell us privately the minimum you would accept and your ideal price, and which document you hold. You are under no obligation to sell at any point, and your details are never published. If you would rather sell a different plate you own, our sell-your-plate service can market it for you.
