The Full Story

Y 6 is a dateless (pre-1963 style) registration.

It does not spell a dictionary word or a common name, which keeps it in everyday territory: perfectly pleasant, but without the read that makes buyers compete.

On the numbers: a single digit, which collectors always pay a premium for.

Here is the headline: this exact registration has been through a DVLA auction (Collecting Cars auction Jun 2022) and sold for £213,000. A plate's own hammer price is the strongest evidence that can exist, so our band simply brackets that real sale.

We found too few close matches in our movement data to price this from direct comparables, so the estimate leans on typical values for the format, adjusted for the read and the numbers. Treat it as a starting point rather than a benchmark.

Search interest on our own site for this read has been quiet over the last three months (0 searches), which feeds the demand side of the picture.

Because this is a dateless plate, we priced it against its own kind: 36 DVLA auction hammer prices for 1 digit 1 letter registrations, with a typical (median) result of £51,500. That is real same-shape market evidence, though individual history and buyer appetite still move dateless prices more than any formula, so a serious sale deserves a human valuation on top.
